Every spring there's a flurry of activty in our schools and administrative offices in Pakistan as one school year finishes and another begins within a couple of weeks of each other. Students sit for final exams at the end of March or beginning of April and then the new school year starts mid April. This means that students are inessence in school year round, however like here in the U.S. our students have week to two week vacations spread out throughout the year.
After final exams conclude students are given a week off to celebrate the end of exams and to give administrators time to finish grading exams and prepare for the next year. The students are also given time off around certain holidays so they get to celebrate with their family and take a break from classes. While the idea of going to school year round may seem unusual to some we've found our students don't mind too badly.
We take a holistic approach to education so there are classes during the day that are open to both boys and girls and classes in the evening that are open to just girls. Both sets of students learn exactly the same thing so it doesn't matter if the child goes to school during the day or in the evening. All of our students sit for the same exams and have the same vacations from school so at the end of the day the only thing that separates the students.
