Summary

As evidenced by the catastrophic 2022 Flood Crisis which impacted 33 million people, Pakistan is one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, despite only contributing 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Climate scientists estimate that global heating has amplified the devastation from monsoons and floods in Pakistan by 50% and subjected the region to yearly onslaughts. HOPE USA is actively providing food, shelter, and medical aid for communities impacted by cyclical floods.

Challenge

Due to Pakistan's geographical location, climate change has magnified the impact of the country's yearly monsoons and floods. Climate scientists estimate that the damage from the cyclical monsoons that Pakistan experiences has been amplified by 50% due to global heating. Unfortunately, the burden of these natural disasters often places already-disadvantaged communities in further turmoil. HOPE USA is providing aid to families impacted by the 2022 Flood Crisis along with current 2024 floods.

Solution

HOPE USA has been providing ongoing short and long-term disaster relief in the form of cooked food, medical aid, food rations, mosquito nets, clothing/slippers, bedding, and new housing to families that have been adversely impacted by climate change in Pakistan. In the 2022 Pakistan Flood Crisis, we executed immediate interventional aid to 115,000 individuals (and counting). As the current 2024 monsoons unfold, we are relying on experience to guide relief efforts and produce the best outcome.

Long-Term Impact

HOPE USA has a stron presence in underserved communities in Pakistan since 1998. We employ a multi-pronged approach towards poverty alleviation which includes Health, Education, Vocational Training, Clean Water, and Disaster Relief. Altogether we operate a network of Hospitals, Schools, and Vocational Centers that treat 800,000 patients/year, educate 11,000 students, and provide income-generating skills to 6,000 adults, all for free/nominal cost. 70% of our beneficiaries are women and children.
