With Sustainability in Mind in 2022

Our first university graduate of 2022!
Our first university graduate of 2022!

Hello Friends,

We're not quite halfway through the year, but 2022 is already shaping up to be a special year in so many ways.

To kick off the new year, we welcomed 70 returning and 15 new students into our scholarship program, divided evenly between high school and university students. Among our university scholarship students, 10 seized an opportunity to enroll in two-year technical degrees—laboratory technician, surgical instrumentation, network installation, graphic design and tourism—, all of which are in high demand in the current labor market and thus increase young people's work opportunities upon graduation. During the last two months, two young men graduated from university—one with a bachelor's degree in education and the other with an associate's degree in graphic design.

We have also welcomed six aspiring entrepreneurs to our growing community of now 21+ young entrepreneurs who have received training, in-kind seed capital and ongoing support to launch or expand their own businesses. Jeni, one of the newest entrepreneurs to join our network, says: "I am infinitely thankful for the opportunity to receive training, learn and grow. This has been a blessing for my business [Jeni Accesories] that I hope continues to grow more every day."

If you receive news from OYE elsewhere—on social media or by email—you may already know that OYE was announced as one of the winners of the 2022 Maya Ajmera Sustainability Award of the Global Fund for Children. Beyond recognition, this award presents a unique opportunity to strategically invest in our long-term sustainability and ensure that we are able to continue creating opportunities for young people now and into the future. While this award is an opportunity to accelerate our sustainabillity efforts, OYE has and will continue to thrive due to the ongoing and generous support of each and every person and institution in our growing community—including you.

We can't thank you enough for your support and for being a part of our community.

In appreciation,
Amanda

P.S. You can learn more about what we've been up to in our revived and revamped OYE El Cambio newsletter.
