OYE educates, empowers and engages disadvantaged Honduran youth to lead change in their lives, families and communities. This project ensures the sustainability and growth of our signature scholarship program for promising disadvantaged students to continue and complete their secondary education, and supports our work to build youth's leadership, life skills and social support networks through youth-led workshops and programs in the arts, communications, graphic design and sports.
Honduras is one of the most impoverished and unequal countries in Latin America, with over 60% of her population living in poverty. The majority of young people in Honduras do not complete secondary education, let alone receive a relevant and quality education that prepares them for future success in Honduras. Without opportunities to study or work, young people are at risk of poverty, social exclusion, early pregnancy and violence.
OYE provides scholarships to promising students to continue their secondary and university education and creates spaces to build their leadership, life skills and social support networks through youth-led workshops and programs in the arts, communications, graphic design and sports. In the context of a deepening political and social crisis, OYE provides young people with opportunity and hope for a better tomorrow.
The project will educate, empower and engage over 200 Honduran youth lead positive change in their lives, schools and communities. We believe that empowered and engaged young people are key to equitable and sustainable development in Honduras.
