In the wake of huge floods in Pakistan, Oxfam has launched a rapid-relief effort to reach more than 1 million people with clean water, sanitation, hygiene supplies, and longer-term assistance.
Millions of people have had to flee their homes, and they are now struggling to keep their families healthy under difficult and crowded conditions. Many - including children under five - are at high risk of contracting deadly waterborne diseases.
The best way to reduce the risk that the flooding disaster will be followed by a public health emergency is to ensure everyone has access to clean water and sanitation. Oxfam is delivering water, purification materials and soap, and building latrines
Relief must go hand in hand with a serious commitment to rehabilitation and recovery. Oxfam will assist in the recovery effort for years to come.
