Help Us Build Before the Next Rain

By Lena Gilbert | Project Leader

As the year comes to a close, we think about the many great things we accomplished together this year. With your support, we were able to purchase land and start growing crops for food consumption. We planted groundnuts, cassava and rice. Groundnuts (peanuts) are an Acholi tribe (from Northern Uganda) staple food. They grind them by hand and mix with ground sesame seeds to create an amazing paste (somewhat like our peanut butter but even more flavourful). They eat this as a snack with sweet little mini bananas or they use it in stews to eat with the cassava and rice. The rice will be harvested this month and Auntie Grace and the children are all very excited about this!

Our new land has also helped us immensely to start connecting with the community and to get better acquainted with the area and the needs and strengths of the people. We also moved the children back to where they all came from, back to their home land and immersed in what they are all used to. Although we are still renting a home to live in right now, we do hope to be able to build a home on our land before the next rain fall. Together we can take this very important step—please help us to reach our fundraising mark so that we can now build a home on the land we worked so hard to get We need a home for the 11 children currently in our care, with room for others who may need to join us. It will be a place that the children can finally call home! But we do need your help!!

This is the last day to make a donation for 2014. Please do what you can to make this a reality for these children. Help us to finish off the year with the funds to be able to build on the land before March (which is when the next rainy season begins).  We can only do this with your support. Together we can make another leap forward for orphans and child headed households in Uganda.
