Outdoor Education for Children Living in Poverty

Spring 2026

By Jessica Blundell | Grants Manage

In the past spring, Vida Verde has hosted eight classes of low-income children in our three-day/two-night program.  Classroom teachers have many positive things to say about the program:

  • I’ve been on many field trip where the staff are experts in their content but aren’t as skilled in managing large groups of kids. At Vida Verde, the staff are not only knowledgeable about the outdoors but incredibly skilled in engaging, encouraging and managing groups of students. Through a range of strategies, they reinforced positive interactions while redirecting and checking in with students as needed to create a warm, fun, trusting, focused and respectful learning community.
  • Wow! I’m so impressed with what a well thought out program VV is! The way all the programs through out the entire time build on each other and align to the kids and what they need. I see the intent behind all the pieces! Thank you!!
  • Thank you so much, it was a once in a lifetime experience and I’m so grateful to all of the staff that made it so special. It was magical because of you!
  • I’ve been to 5 outdoor Ed programs. Vida verde in leaps and bounds is number 1.  We are so grateful to have been invited back!
  • This is a very good learning program that I really am thankful for getting the chance to be here. As staff, I was able to learn and receive the many benefits from this trip such as receiving and seeking peace, the importance of nature in our world, how to respect all living things, doing so much more with little to none, and being in community with one another. We get so caught up on the screen and forget that we live in a beautiful world with many different creations that are gifts for us. That solo walk on the Redwood hike was something I needed during this time in my life. Soul-fulfilling and true peace are things I received from this camp and I hope the kids received the same. Thank you all very much.

With half of the spring program left to go, we are excited to welcome the remaining classes to camp!
