Sponsor an older Colombian orphan (aged 10-14) who has no chance of adoption in their own country because of their age. Kidsave's Summer Miracles program brings children to the US for one month to stay with host families on a cultural exchange. Host families, dedicated volunteers & staff work behind the scenes to advocate for each child's adoption & introduce them to interested families in fun, relaxed settings. 80% of the children who travel find loving, adoptive families.
Research indicates that stable family, or an adult who has taken an interest and created a lasting bond, are key factors in preventing youth violence, creating positive social orientation and helping children develop the skills they need to succeed as adults. Children cannot raise themselves. Many children without parents don't finish high school, they end up homeless and in our prisons. They are prime candidates for trafficking, prostitution, terrorists and becoming child soldiers.
Children growing up in orphanages, whether they be government or private ones, do not get the care they need. These children are often overlooked and forgotten, especially the older children who are considered "hard-to-place". Kidsave gives these kids hope. We bring these kids out of hiding and introduce them to caring families and adults. When the families meet the children, something miraculous happens - they fall in love. Some families will adopt and others will become lifelong advocates.
Since 1999, more than 1,700 children have traveled to the US as part of our Summer Miracles program, and over 80% have found families who have adopted them or are pursuing adoption. These children are excelling. They are going to school, getting jobs and starting their own families. They have risen above all odds and become productive members of our society with the help of loving parents. They have escaped a life of poverty and crime that many succumb to when they age out of government care.
