Standing Together for Food Access

By Bobak Pearson | Grants Developer

At Oregon Food Bank, we believe hunger is not inevitable. Hunger is the result of policy choices. The mission of Oregon Food Bank is to eliminate hunger and its root causes, because no one should be hungry. We work every day to connect people with food now while building community power to end hunger.

Many Oregon families faced new challenges as changes to SNAP benefits left thousands of people with less support to put food on the table. News reports across the state highlighted the impact of these cuts, with community members sharing how rising costs and reduced benefits are making it harder to meet basic needs. As more families turn to food assistance, Oregon Food Bank and our network partners continue to respond with compassion and urgency.

Food banks and partner agencies across Oregon have seen increased demand as households work to stretch limited budgets. For many people, SNAP is one of the most effective tools for preventing hunger. When benefits are reduced or lost, families are often forced to make impossible choices between food, housing, health care, and other necessities. These challenges remind us that it is not simply about food. It is connected to the policies and systems that shape daily life.

At the same time, we continue to see the strength of our communities. Staff, volunteers, partner organizations, and community advocates are working together to ensure people can access the food they need today while also speaking out for long-term solutions. Their efforts help keep food flowing to communities across Oregon and elevate the voices of those most affected by hunger.

The road ahead remains uncertain. Many families are still struggling with the high cost of living, and changes to public benefits continue to create hardship for communities throughout the state. Yet we know that lasting change is possible when people come together to support one another and advocate for policies that help everyone thrive.

Your support makes this possible. Because of you, Oregon Food Bank can respond when families face difficult moments while continuing to work toward a future where hunger no longer exists. Together, we can show that hunger is a policy choice. And together, we can choose a future where every person in Oregon has enough to eat.
