The 'Kiwimbi Prep for Success' program aims to deliver on the UN Sustainable Development Goal #4 (Quality education- ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all) by providing programs and transformative opportunities that help students, at three Focus Schools, develop the skills, knowledge and habits needed to succeed throughout their primary school. Our goal is to ensure that our beneficiary children have a solid educational foundation.
Your view of the world may not yet include a community in rural Kenya where children often walk miles to schools that offer little more than desks, a blackboard and a teacher who lacks resources to enable students to succeed academically.Without appropriate educational resources & support most of these students can't pass the gateway national grade exam, keeping them from a life-path of literacy and a quality secondary education.A daily nutritious lunch at home is not guaranteed either.
This Program provides over 200 students academic support through small group tutoring, one-on-one mentoring, a nourishing daily lunch, learning camps during school holidays and more, all with the goal of improving literacy and math competency. We provide in-class tutors who support school teachers, reducing the student:teacher ratio & providing extra support. The exam is given in English, so English lessons are key.
Kiwimbi means "ripple" in Swahili. We are supported by local Community members who volunteer their time to assist and support our outreach efforts. The success of the students creates a culture and community of literacy.Over 200 students are supported by this Program each year, sending ripples of change throughout their families and the wider community. Many students speak of returning to the community after completing higher education, hoping to bring support and a positive impact back home.
