Kiwimbi's Prep for Success program has shifted it's focus to grade 9 this year in response to the government's new curriculum called, the Competency Based Curriculum, that moved the national exam from grade 8 to grade 9. The Kiwimbi teaching assistants continue to provide important daily educational small-group and one-on-one tutoring outside of the school day.
A recent initiative has been implemented where the Kiwimbi teaching assistants have begun increasing their time in the school classrooms, co-teaching with the classroom teachers. This new system helps decrease the student/teacher ratio in the classroom and increase the time each student has access to extra instruction. This cooperative program is unique in the Kenyan educational system and is a testament to the mutual respect between the the public school teachers and the Kiwimbi teaching assistants. We are very fortunate to have this relationship that enhances the educational experiences for the children in our program.
