Your gifts are enabling hearing impaired children in Bangladesh to communicate with their families, learn in school, and thrive. Five-year-old Mishu is one of those you’re helping.
When Mishu was six months old, she got pneumonia. Her parents were grateful when she recovered from such a serious illness, but when she was about 18 months old, her parents realized she wasn’t talking like other children her age.
After extensive testing, Mishu’s parents were told their daughter had suffered severe hearing loss from the illness. They were devastated.
Wanting the best possible services for their child, Mishu’s parents considered moving to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. But they couldn’t afford housing on her father’s teaching salary. For several years, they received no help for their daughter.
They had almost given up hope when they learned about World Concern’s Hear School not far from their rural home. Mishu was admitted in April 2013. During her assessment, she was not able to form any words and had never used a hearing aid.
Today, Mishu is a thriving, happy 5-year-old. Thanks to your generous support, the use of a hearing aid and specialized education, Mishu is developing language skills in both Bengali and English. She is beginning to learn math and has a growing interest in drawing and dancing. Her father even enrolled her in art classes because of her interest in drawing. As a teacher, he looks forward to Mishu being enrolled in a mainstream school someday. This is possible because of the special education she’s received with your support. Thank you!
