As much of East Java quietly celebrates the culmination of fasting month with Eid al-Fitr, at Grace House, and other homes, end of the year school exams continue at least for the next week. Our East Java safe home has been moving toward the end of a long school year that has been online almost in its entirety.
Determination continues for this young resident working hard to wrap up her middle school years with hope-filled sights fixed on entering a vocational high school program in July, one that she chose. During the past few months, our program and care team thoughtfully investigated school programs of possibilities, with her, giving her exposure and opportunity to choose something that would fit her desires and contribute to her future.
As well, collaborations and preparations have begun to bring another girl back to East Java, her home region, from another island’s safe house. We expect to see her walk through our doors next month. She is looking forward to beginning her high school years in her hometown. She is one of the reasons why Grace House exists. Her situation, among the others, was one that informed the need for a safe house and rehabilitation home for survivors in East Java. We get to be part of her Welcome Home story.
In general, things are moving slow but as the community and government determine how to best reinstate regular daily life and travel we continue to creatively connect working on ways to strengthen care, staffing, and resources for each new survivor that will have a future and temporary home at Grace House.
We truly are grateful for you and for all your support for every survivor.
