The Coalition's low or no-cost outdoor exploration programs, many of which are based at BBC's Onset Bay Center (OBC), are aimed at ensuring more people experience the joys of getting out on the water and the regional environment more broadly. As a result of the Coalition's collaboration with the New Bedford and Wareham Public Schools, thousands of young people have participated in BBC's experiential learning programs during the school year.
Many young people in the Buzzards Bay watershed have never experienced the Bay or been on a boat, despite living at the coast. The Onset Bay Center provides experiential learning opportunities that educate youth about their natural environment.
OBC directly engages over 2,500 youth every year and provided more than $30,000 in scholarship funding to youth who wouldn't otherwise be able to take part in programming. This project will help fund those programs and bridge the gap, making OBC accessible to all who want to particpate.
Outdoor exploration programs at OBC will instill an appreciation for Buzzards Bay in the youth that take part and develop them into stewards of this beautiful region for years to come.
