Dear all,
thank you so much for your loyalty, we are so happy to share with you.
Our mission is to bring play and laughter to hospitalized and vulnerable children. Being in a hospital is stressful and frightening especially for the child. The noises, smells, white coats, painful medical procedures, and worried parents, are overwhelming. Overcrowding and lack of time by the staff to connect with the children add to the scary atmosphere. While medical care is often excellent no supportive activities were offered. Sending clowns and other performers to hospitalized children was a new approach to Chinese medical care, and we sent our first clown in 2003, into China’s largest Children hospital (800 beds). Named Clowns and Co this program gave birth to our organization.
Supported by your donations we help to create an all-around better environment for children during their hospital stay.
In the period of January 2018 - April 2018 we organized 24 visits with our regular program: 18 visit to Beijing Children Hospital and 6 visits to Beida Hospital. Further, we organized 2 surprise visits to BoAi hospital (for our special day for Autism event) and Huaxin hospital with our French clown friend Jean-Baptiste Lepreu, who is incredibly supportive, and also very funny of course.
As we have reported one of our program team members had to stop because she found a full-time job, for a couple of weeks our tireless Mr. Liu has been holding up the fort by himself. Luckily during we have now found a new addition to the program, Ms. Jin who is already very popular with the children and staff.
Future steps:
We need to scout for potential performers and set up a roster. In addition we hope we can convince Mr. Liu, our veteran clown to take on some apprentices and offer a training program for future clowns working in the hospital.
In April 2018 we received a kind press coverage on the site beijingkids, which is an essential resource for Beijing based families. You find the link further down.
More news about other activities we will share with you in our newsletter. We hope you like what you read. Please spread the word about our program and help us raise funds so we can do more.
With gratitude
Claudia Vogg
