Project Report | Feb 17, 2022
The children of Michoacan are still in school

By FUNDACION EDUCA MEXICO, A.C. | Fundacion EDUCA

In the 2021–2022 School Year, the Tata Vasco School in Santa Fe de la Laguna, Michoacán AC, located in the indigenous community on the shores of Lake Pátzcuaro, is the RED EDUCA school with the highest degree of vulnerability, reporting desertion school due to the loss of jobs for parents and mobility to seek job opportunities in other communities, as well as family members sick with COVID.

We have awarded scholarships that have been channeled directly to the school.
63% of parents were unemployed due to conditions derived from the health contingency. 37% kept their jobs.
7% of relatives of students reported becoming ill due to COVID-19. 93% did not get sick.
7% of students reported the death of a family member due to COVID-19. 93% had no losses.
At the beginning of the school year, the classes were in virtual mode and only if necessary, the parents went to the school to collect material or deliver homework. In October the students began to take classes in a hybrid way and, from November to date, they attend school in person all week organized in three groups with different schedules. Thanks to these scholarships, no withdrawal of any of the students has been reported.
The perception of the school is that 70% of the students have achieved the expected learning thanks to the fact that they have attended all their classes; the remaining 30% did not have adequate technology to take online classes, which caused a disadvantage in their academic achievement. Starting with face-to-face classes, their teachers have taken measures to regularize them.
