Dear donor,
On February 6th, Turkey was shaken by two powerful earthquakes which destroyed 11 cities in southeastern Turkey where CYDD has 8 local branches and 3600 scholarship students. About 12.5 million people were affected and 3.5 million of these were children below age 14.
Many families surviving the earthquake lost their houses and their personal belongings and had to move to other towns to stay with relatives or in temporary accommodation offered by municipalities, hotels, boarding houses. Many CYDD scholarship students who were in the region and survived the earthquake could not enter their damaged homes and in the coming months, the heavily damaged houses were demolished with all the furniture and personal belongings inside.
In the days following the earthquake, CYDD branches contacted their scholarship students in the region to assess their needs and sent them right away 1000tl cash for immediate relief. As schools were closed in the region and universities all over the country started once again on-line education, the need for laptop computers was urgent. We tried to buy laptops as donations came and gave new laptops to 214 students who had left theirs under the rubble of their houses..
We still have many students waiting for new computers and hope to supply them all with your support.
Thank you for your ongoing support...
