On 13th November, Mirai Future of Kenya held a meaningful Walking Campaign themed “Let’s Promote Child Protection.” Together with children from the Nafasi Programme, volunteers, the Mirai team, the administration department, children officer and police officers, we walked from Kawaa Market to Masii Market to raise awareness on children’s rights and safety. Along the way, the children carried banners and posters with messages such as “Children Deserve Love, Not Pain,” “Say No to Child Abuse,” “Our Rights, Our Right,” and “Say Yes to Care.” Their energy and confidence drew the attention of the entire community.
Upon arriving at Masii Market, the children led the programme with powerful presentations including a poem, song, and role-play in Swahili all centred on child protection and creating a safe environment for every child. Their performances showcased their growing understanding and their strong voices as young champions of safety.
After the presentations, we received insightful speeches from a Nafasi program volunteer who is also a member of the community, staff from Tumaini International Trust, the Kenya Police Service, and finally the Children’s Officer. They spoke about child protection laws, reporting through 116, what happens during the reporting process, and current child safety concerns in Mwala Sub-County. Tumaini staff also shared guidance on positive discipline and supporting children’s wellbeing at home.
The day ended with a renewed commitment from the community to prioritize child protection. Through collective awareness and action, we continue to strengthen our mission: "Let’s Promote Child Protection".
