At the end of the year, a group of 22 scholarship recipients from rural communities will graduate high school, and we wish to offer them the opportunity to go to their state capitales, discover universities and envision a future there. This three-day trip will allow them to visit universities in different cities, talk to professionals working in the fields they are considering studying, and enjoy some leisure time with the tutors who have accompanied them throughout the years.
Studying when coming from a rural community is not always guaranteed, and the university is only a dream for many students. At Minkai, we work daily to help them achieve this dream. In Argentina, only 13% of young people graduates high school on time and after experiencing adequate learning conditions. This figure applies to the whole country. Regarding rural areas, it is much harder to say and the situation is estimated to be even worse.
Globally, young people face greater difficulties entering the world of work, and in rural areas, this difficulty is compounded by the challenge of accessing university-level education. At Minkai, we have a higher education scholarships program. As part of this program, wealso seek to give soon-to-be graduates the opportunity to discover the capital city of their province. There, they would visit universities and training institues, as well as speak with professionals from various fields.
We want to familiarise young people with university, its courses and possibilities, and give them a first-hand experience of what it is like. In previous years, this approach has resulted in 63% of our graduates pursuing studies at university the following year.
