Vulnerable girls in Bamenda, Cameroon's conflict-affected North-West Region, face barriers to accessing quality STEM learning materials and opportunities. Through One Book, Many Futures, GLOWA will provide educational resources and learning support to help girls strengthen their STEM knowledge, build confidence and pursue future opportunities in science and technology.
Girls in conflict-affected and economically vulnerable communities in Bamenda face barriers in accessing textbooks and STEM learning resources. Conflict, displacement, poverty and loss of livelihoods make school materials difficult for many families to afford. They may share books, use outdated materials or study without appropriate textbooks, limiting independent reading, revision and practical engagement with mathematics & science and fewer opportunities to build the knowledge and pursue STEM
One Book, Many Futures is a community Book Bank providing vulnerable girls with improved access to mathematics, science and other STEM learning resources. The project purchases new books, repair old ones, tag & organize books, facilitate group learning activities and engage parents and communities in supporting girls' education. Education-related child protection and awareness activities will promote safer learning environments and strengthen community support for girls' educational progress.
The project aims to improve girls' educational progress, strengthen their confidence and interest in STEM and expand access to learning resources beyond the classroom. A sustainable community Book Bank will support reading and independent study while parent and community engagement will promote girls' education and safer learning environments. Over time, the initiative shall advance community support, educational inclusion and expand opportunities in STEM-related careers for vulnerable girls.
