By uniting leaders, businesses, coaches, and young refugees from across the world to create a team with purpose, we are fostering a meaningful team like no other. Together we can help young refugees discover a future full of opportunity, fueled by the Olympic spirit.
There are millions of displaced children around the world, many suffering from the unimaginable hardships that come with estrangement. With barriers like accessibility to resources, lack of community, language differences, and more, we must do better in supporting and protecting young refugees around the globe. As a global pastime and career, sport is something that all children, regardless of status, should have access to in order to better find their community and develop passions and skills.
For young people uprooted by conflict, persecution or disaster, sport can offer a safe haven. Sport can develop stronger ties in communities, provide opportunities to learn new skills, build networks, and improve health. Sport can be the springboard for a future that didn't seem possible; it can help young people discover a new family, a new career path, new skills, a new passion, or at least a space to belong. We all share one goal - for displaced young people to find belonging through sport.
We want to ensure 1 million young people access safe sport by 2024, and we won't stop there. To do this we're focused on making an impact in three areas: Access, adoption, and collective action. By making sure more young people affected by displacement can access safe sport, ensuring that the role of safe sport here is widely understood and used by the community, and mobilizing partnerships to create sustained change, we can completely change the experience of young refugees around the world.
