The motorcade starts after the President of India, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Armed powers, unfurls our national flag. One of the principal elements of the Parade is to honour the martyrs who have forfeited their lives for the country by showing courage in the face of adversity. On 26 January 1950, three years post-independence, India turned into a secular, sovereign, socialist and a democratic republic.
