Fundacion Nino Jesus plans to offer a better quality life for the elderly in Bogota, Colombia- Latin America. The objective of this project is to contribute to improving the quality of life of elderly person. The project aims to provide elder people, tools to live their aging process in a healthy way in the physical and emotional level, thus contributing to feel active and productive including in this process the family or caregiver, as a key actor.
According to DANE and the Secretaria Distrital de Planeacion, in Bogota there are 902,614 people over 60 years old. Currently, Fundacion Nino Jesus supports approximately 300 elderly people, primarily in Engativa. This number makes up part of the elderly population that does not receive any attention from their families and who also present high levels of conditions such as depression, isolation and physical and psychological mistreatment, thus making them feel like a liability for their family
Dancing, theater, music and art have become tools that have allowed the elderly to develop their skills and find their own talents. This has helped them to enjoy their old age with a difference; these activities have allowed them to be independent through the chance to gain their own income from their work and presentations. All of those activities are supervised by a medical team, nutritionist, physical therapist , gerontologist , among others.
This project benefits 300 elderly people. With this program, To contribute to improving the quality of life of elderly person, through their recognition as rights subject, with skills, potential an d acquiring new tools for continued growth as people and for full enjoyment of old age. In Colombia there is a growing number of elderly population, more than 50% of them , without state aid .
