The year 2026 started very quickly for our fund. Mr. Aygündüz, the founder and volunteer of our fund, spent time with METU alumni and friends in Dubai between January 21st and February 2nd. During this period, new donors joined the project through organized events, and the number of scholarship recipients in the UAE METU community increased to 100. Behind this success were the great support of the Consul General of Dubai, Onur Saylan, and the President of the UAE METU Community, Ali Ruhi Alsancak. Between April 13th and 16th, we held the final alumni-scholarship recipient meetings of this academic year with the participation of our scholarship recipients and 24 guest speakers. At our meetings, which included an opening speech by the Rector of METU, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yozgatlgil, laptops were delivered to students in need. A plaque of appreciation was presented to Ipek Gözütok, who has been making regular monthly donations for 15 years.
On the evening of May 12th, our traditional dinner was held at Roka restaurant in Istanbul with the participation of 178 guests in a very warm and friendly atmosphere. Asena Yalnz,Cem Özdemir, Cemal Demirtas, Dilek Yüksel, Eylem Ekmekçi, Gizem Yagz,Görkem Elverici,Hatice Korkmaz, Nihan Senocak, Mustafa Gökçe, Cem Kosmaz, Zeynep Frat, Zeynep Kulalar, Zeynep Öztekbas,Semih Inceday, Eda Körlü and Yalçn Yldrm, who have been providing regular monthly scholarship support for 15 years, received their thank you plaques.
Next week, Mr. Aygündüz will fly to London at the invitation of METU alumni and friends residing in England. You will be able to find news and photos from this visit in the next report.
