EARTHQUAKE BURNED OUR HEARTS, PAIN HAS BEEN TEARS
By ARIF AYGUNDUZ | PROJECT VOLUNTEER
While I was writing this report, I wished to be in a very good mood, but unfortunately the earthquake prevented it. About 60,000 people lost their lives under 15.000 collapsed buildings. We also identified METU students who lost their family members and homes after the earthquake, as a result of the research conducted by our scholars. Helping these students We matched them with our graduates who wanted to donate money directly to their bank accounts. A total of 1,068,000 TL was sent to 150 earthquake-affected students.
In addition, we have sent 2 scholarships to our earthquake survivors this month. Starting from March, we will start giving scholarships to the students who were most affected by the earthquake in terms of loss of life and property. We will provide scholarships to earthquake victims who will win our university and become students next October.
That's why we need your increased support. Last year, we broke a record by realizing our budget estimate of 3,300,000 TL to 5,200,000 TL. This year's donation estimate is 6,500,000 TL. I believe we will easily exceed this target with your support.
We organized the traditional alumni-scholarship meetings on the campus between 21-24 December
2022. Our 20 graduates came together with 700 scholars in 4 days and got to know each other.
Our 52 scholars who wanted to benefit from our "coach support" program this year were matched with internationally certified coaches by Naci Demiral, the founder of The Coaching Company and his team, who have voluntarily provided this support to us for 6 years.
The mentors of our 57 scholars who want mentor support will be determined next week.
