Helping Sarah Function

By Nigel Keur | AIDSLink Africa

“Nucleo© has helped me to become functional as a parent.” Three months ago, we sat down to chat with Sarah*. Her CD4 count (immune system) was low, she had very little energy and doctors didn't know what more they could do to help her. She was faithfully taking her medication and trying her best to eat a balanced diet but her health was declining.

Sarah is a school teacher, she has adopted a young girl who faced many challenges as a toddler. Furthermore she has taken on 5 other underprivileged kids from her community, helping them with meals and things like school uniforms.  However, due to exhaustion, she was not able to get around as she would like to. She wasn't able to be the mother she wanted to be for her daughter or give the community kids the attention they needed.

We started her on a small portion of Nucleo© (nutritional supplement) to see if it would help in any way. After a few weeks her energy levels improved a little bit but there was still no increase in her CD4 count – but, at least it wasn't going down. We increased the amount of Nucleo© and three-months later there was a marked increase in both her CD4 count and energy levels.

She can now be the mother she wanted to be, and give the kids in the community the attention she desired to. Sarah is also able to fully live out her passion as a teacher of 7th graders impacting their lives in a very positive way.

We are extremely thankful that AIDSLink was able to make a difference in Sarah's life, so that she can in turn impact the lives of many children in her community.
