While everyone was facing unprecedented challenges due to COVID-19, Empowerment for the Poor-Uganda was building capacity of poor and marginalized household to overcome the brunt of the economic and social fallout of COVID-19. 32 families were empowered to improve food self sufficiency and economic self-reliance through giving them the resources and training they need to support themselves. Households engaged in subsistence farming often live in chronic poverty and malnutrition, lacking the skills to get the most out of their small patches of land but our business and entrepreneurship capacity building program has helped these households to overcome socio-economic barriers in order to realize broader long-term development goals including education, health and nutrition for their children as well as achieving personal growth, independence and the economic payoff
During this period under review, families were empowered with conservation agriculture skills, entrepreneurship skills and provided with agricultural inputs like seeds. Households were also trained and supported to engage in agriculture diversification through bee farming. Bees play an important role in pollination - necessary for many food crops to grow especially fruit, vegetables, seeds, and nuts and this has given rewards to households by increasing agriculture productivity and income. Homes also use honey to strengthen their immunize system for fighting COVID-19 epidemic.
We thank our donors for their continuous generous contribution to our work without their support, we would not have been here to share these success. We continue to request supporters to support more households acquire bee hives and promote their livelihoods
