Summary

CCircle Foundation for Sustainable Health and Environment will host a Secondary School Debate for World Environment Day 2026, helping youths build critical thinking, leadership, and environmental awareness. Students research and debate real issues, sharing knowledge gained with communities. Since 2022, over 1,000 students, including visually and hearingimpaired students, have participated, promoting inclusion and inspiring young environmental advocates as we raise environmental consciousness.

Challenge

Many young people rely on social media without critical thinking, leading to quick opinions and misinformation. Recent political campaigns in Nigeria showed weak public debate and rising division, revealing a lack of skills in analysis, respectful dialogue, and evaluating ideas. Without change, society risks choosing leaders based on emotion, not competence. This inspired our approach: using debate as a tool for social change.

Solution

For five years, our World Environment Day Inter-school debates Competition have helped students engage real environmental and social issues. Debate builds critical thinking, public speaking, leadership, teamwork, and respect for diverse views. Students become environmental champions who share knowledge beyond school. Our inclusive model integrates visually and hearingimpaired learners, promoting empathy and diversity. Over 24 schools and 1000+ students have participated.

Long-Term Impact

This project creates a lasting impact by helping young people become critical thinkers, confident communicators, and inclusive leaders. Communities grow more accepting of people with disabilities, and environmental awareness spreads into families and neighborhoods. Civic engagement improves as students learn to ask better questions. The project builds a generation that values ideas, inclusion, and sustainability over division.
