Nurturing Hope: Build, Protect vulnerable children

The Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to face a severe and complex humanitarian crisis, particularly in conflict-affected areas of the East and in communities affected by mining-related vulnerability. Children are among those who bear the greatest burden of violence, displacement, poverty, exploitation, forced labor, interrupted education, and malnutrition. In response, Nurturing Hope was developed as an integrated child-protection initiative that seeks not only to respond to immediate needs, but also to help build a safer and more supportive environment in which vulnerable children can recover, learn, and regain hope for their future.

The project is currently in its preparation and resource-mobilization phase. To date, $0 has been raised toward the $75,000 project budget, and implementation in the field has not yet begun. The team is currently identifying qualified trainers and potential learners, preparing the implementation approach, and working to establish the partnerships and resources required for responsible delivery. Once funding is secured, the project will focus on child protection, psychosocial support, education and skills development, and stronger systems for following vulnerable children as they move between communities or services. A secure digital information approach is planned to help authorized protection actors maintain continuity of essential medical, educational, and psychosocial information and reduce the risk of children being lost between institutions or during displacement.

The ambition of Nurturing Hope is long-term: to help vulnerable children move from survival toward stability, learning, dignity, and greater agency.
