Behind every girl is a dream waiting for a chance. Nurture 100 Dreams will support 100 girls in Nigeria whose education is threatened by poverty and financial hardship. The project will provide school fees, uniforms, books, menstrual pads and learning materials based on each girl's needs. With these barriers removed, girls can return to the classroom, remain in school and have a fair chance to turn their dreams into a future.
Nigeria faces a severe education gap for girls. UNICEF estimates that 7.6 million girls are out of school, with poverty among the barriers keeping them from the classroom. Among the poorest households, only 9% of girls attend secondary school. UNESCO estimates that just 55.5% of girls complete upper secondary school, compared with 75.3% of boys. Child marriage, early pregnancy and financial hardship place many more girls at risk of leaving school before completing their education.
This project will give 100 girls from low-income families the financial support they need to stay in school. Each girl will receive assistance based on her needs, including school fees, uniforms, books, school bags, learning materials and menstrual pads. We will work with schools and families to identify girls at risk of dropping out, support their enrolment and help them continue their education without financial hardship.
Supporting 100 girls to remain in school can change the course of their lives. Completing their education can open doors to higher education, vocational training and future employment while reducing their risk of child marriage and early pregnancy. Each girl who finishes school has a better chance to earn an income, make informed decisions about her future and give her own children greater educational opportunities.
