Good nutrition begins close to home. For families caring for vulnerable children, a household garden can provide a practical opportunity to increase access to fresh food while reducing some pressure on limited household income.
Through Nurture 200 Children’s Lives, F SSIBU Mission Foundation is encouraging families to establish productive gardens using improved seeds and practical farming techniques.
Families learn how to identify suitable crops, prepare garden spaces, improve soil fertility, plant effectively, manage weeds, protect crops, and harvest at the right time. Where possible, gardens are designed around household nutritional needs and available space.
Girls are actively involved because we want them to understand the relationship between farming, nutrition, and family wellbeing. The skills they gain can also become valuable livelihood knowledge later in life.
A household garden may begin as a small project, but its impact can extend across the family. Fresh vegetables can improve meals, while surplus produce can potentially be sold to generate additional income.
Donors can help us provide seeds, basic tools, training, demonstrations, and follow-up support to families connected to Nurture 200.
This work is especially important because sustainable child support cannot focus only on the child. The household must also have the capacity to provide.
By strengthening family food production, we can help create healthier environments around vulnerable children.
Every garden represents an opportunity to grow nourishment, skills, confidence, and resilience.
Your support can help more Nurture 200 families transform available space into productive sources of food and hope.
