A Menstrual Mentorship program for girls and boys in Primary Five to Seven at Mwanyagiri Primary School creates a supportive, informed environment. For girls, sessions focus on understanding menstruation as a natural process, managing hygiene with dignity, tracking cycles, and addressing pain or anxiety.
For boys, learning dismantles myths, reduces teasing, and builds respectful allies who can offer support. Combined activities include open Q&A, story-sharing, and reusable pad-making demonstrations.
Teachers receive training to lead age-appropriate discussions using local language and visuals.
The goal is threefold: reduce school absenteeism among girls, prevent shame-based bullying, and foster teamwork. By normalizing conversation together—not in separate corners—children grow up seeing menstrual health as shared human health.
After six months, the school expects fewer girls missing class, more boys speaking kindly, and a cultural shift from secrecy to strength. Mwanyagiri Primary will become a model where every child learns: periods never stop a child’s right to learn.
