Dear Donors,

We are so grateful for your support of Nuevas Novelas. Thanks to you, this past June we partnered with Vaughn International Studies Academy to offer middle and high school students the opportunity to tell the stories of their families and communities through film through an Oral Histories edition of the program.

Over the course of the program, students learned camera, editing, sound, and production skills while also exploring the cultural impact of storytelling. The result was three powerful short films inspired by oral histories collected from elders in their families and communities. These films not only captured deeply personal stories but also became a source of pride and healing for the young filmmakers, their families, and their teachers. One school leader even shared the films with all teachers during a professional development day, noting how impressed they were with both the technical quality and the meaningful messages.

For many students, this was their first time holding a camera, directing a scene, or seeing their creative vision come to life on screen. The experience gave them a sense of belonging and confidence, showing them that their voices and perspectives matter. It also strengthened their ties to the community, as they carried their elders’ stories into a new artistic form.

Your generosity makes this program possible. Together, we are opening doors for youth of color to step into leadership, claim their stories, and see themselves as artists, and changemakers.

Please head to our page to double your impact or consider giving $10/month to celebrate our 10 year anniversary of serving our community.

With gratitude,
The Justice for My Sister Team
