Meeting the sea for the first time
Meeting the sea for the first time

Dear donors,

We are very happy to report the results of this project, first of all, thank you very much again for you help and solidarity to reach this goal in the benefit of kids and teenagers in vulnerable situations of San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas.

In this project we were able to benefit 45 kids and teenagers with their parents by taking them into an environmental education journey at the beach for their first time. With your help we visited Boca del Cielo, Chiapas, one of the beaches in Chiapas that receives sea turtles every year for nesting. Sea turtles are an endangered species all around the world, with this project we learned about the conservation of this species during class in Chantiik, and also at the beach in the sea turtle camps. We monitored the nesting sites to protect and count the sea turtles eggs, because this product is stolen and sold in the black market of the region. Along with this the kids and teenagers had the initiative of cleaning the beach, so they made small groups of 5 or 6 people and went along the sea shore collecting trash.

As you may know the majority of the kids and teenagers was their first visiting the beach, so it was a whole new experience for them to smell the sea, the sand and also touch it. It was beautifull to see their faces shocked with the waves and the rest of the landscape. We were able to play soccer at the beach, volleyball, made sand figures and we also had different group dynamics like dancing, flying kites, and others. We also had the opportinuty to eat very good, different dishes like fish in different presentations, shrimp, always with a side of rice or beans, and a refreshing glass of lemonade.

If there is any questions regarding to the results of the project we would be really happy to hear from you, with no further to say, THANK YOU VERY MUCH AGAIN FOR EVERYTHING.

Sincerely,

Chantiik Taj Tajinkutik A.C. Team
