This project will support Northern Ireland Children's Hospice to purchase new specialist equipment to safely care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions. Each year, this charity provides respite, symptom management and end of life care to more than 370 children, both in the family home and at Horizon House in Newtownabbey (the only children's hospice in the province). This care is free of charge and available to any family in need.
Most children cared for by NI Children's Hospice have very complex, often rare, conditions that severely limit their health, development, and mobility. A huge range of specialist equipment is needed in the care of each child: from medical items essential for breathing, ventilation, and feeding, to all the specialist aids for sleep, play, and mobility. The Children's Hospice's mobility/bedding equipment is used every day and now needs replaced to ensure safe, hygienic care.
Your donations will help purchase several pieces of specialist mobility and bedding equipment for the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice. These include a new paediatric bed and mattress, overhead hoists for 3 bedrooms to safely move children between their bed and wheelchair, and several specialist bedding supports ("cocoons") that provide extra padding and support. These items will keep children safe and comfortable, and will help them get on with the most important parts of being a child.
By helping to fund these essential pieces of equipment, your generosity will help to provide items that will make a real difference to the lives of the young people being cared for at the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice every single day. Importantly, these are durable pieces of equipment that will benefit hundreds of life-limited children from across Northern Ireland over the next 5-10 years.
