We remain committed to our mission to close the hunger gap in our community by providing access to nutritious food. And during uncertain times like these, we turn to you, to ensure we are able to continue our important work.
Demand for meals is at an all-time high for the North Texas Food Bank as people are dealing with layoffs, furloughs and children at home. The Food Bank is already distributing 40 percent more food to our Partner Agencies and we anticipate the need continuing to rise.
As a vital relief organization during times of crisis we worked quickly to ensure we could meet the need. NTFB has focused all efforts into creating family meal boxes. Each box provides 21 meals and includes shelf stable items such as pasta, peanut butter and canned vegetables. The boxes are distributed at our Mobile Pantry sites as well as our Partner Agencies in a drive thru fashion to limit contact between staff and the public. We are distributing approximately 60,000 boxes weekly.
Each skipped meal reduces the body's ability to resist infection, by feeding our neighbors we're not only providing hope and a basic human need, we're protecting individuals from contracting and spreading this virus to others in our community. Your generosity is helping pave the way for a steady path forward during a challenging time.
