Our wonderful Shelter Director, Sandra, had been watching him for weeks. A poor, lonely, hungry dog living in an abandoned building. After weeks of providing food, water, and gaining trust little by little, she was able to get a little closer to him and noticed he was covered in fleas. Buddy, the name she decided to give him, was in need of her help, and she wasnt about to look the other way.
She went back to the shelter to get flea treatment, put it in canned food, and made sure he ate it. She eventually got to the point where she could hand feed him chicken and pet him on his nose. She also noticed he started to gain weight and look healthier.
Her and another devoted rescuer, Pat, set up a humane trap to try to get him to safety. He walked all around the trap, ate food in front of the trap, but he had no interest in going in the trap. Finally, they tried to use a leash to get him, and ironically enough, he accepted the leash immediately and jumped right into their car!
They brought Buddy, now a happy, saved mutt, back to the shelter and gave him a bath. Our shelter will microchip buddy and test for heartworms.
I wanted to share this story to show you how lucky our animals are to have Sandra look out for them. She isnt in this for anything else other than animal welfare. Her and her Dog n Kitty crew, though small, are a team with big hearts. Of course, they cant do this alone and thanks to our supporters, they dont have to!
Here's to sharing more wonderful stories like these!
