Cornelia is a stray cat who came to Dog & Kitty City on March 20, 2011. We estimated her age at 2 years. She is a beautiful orange female, which is fairly rare as orange cats tend to be male. She was aloof and never found a feline companion at the shelter; instead, she preferred to lounge by herself on the screened-in "catio" or on the top level of a kuranda bed in the front room. Most of the cats in the front room are social and welcome volunteers and visitors, but not Cornelia. She was more likely to take a swipe or a nip at people who reached out to touch her.
After several years, it was thought Cornelia would be spending the remainder of her life at the shelter, and she was designated a Sanctuary Cat and included on the list of cats needing a Guardian Angel.
On March 6, 2018, we received an adoption application for Cornelia ! The applicants had lived in an apartment complex close to the shelter, and on one of their morning walks, stumbled upon Dog & Kitty City. They saw Cornelia but did not make a connection with the pretty girl. A year later, after moving away and into a house, they decided to add to their family of 3 cats and remembered Cornelia. At the age of 9 years and after 7 years at the shelter, Cornelia "went home".
We were concerned about her adjustment to her new home and integration into her new family, but we heard from her mom and dad about 2 weeks later, when they wrote, " Cornelia is doing really well. ... The cats were cautious at first but didn't seem to mind each other's company after the first day. She loves her Fancy Feast, uses the litter boxes, and drinks water. She loves to sunbathe a lot and squirrel/bird watch. She really likes catnip toys and an interactive tunnel we have. Each day there is more progress. On the third day we woke up with her on the bed with us which we love."
To Cornelia's new family: Thank you for taking a chance on our sweet girl. She (and we) are forever grateful.
