Protect and Inspire Street Connected Children in Nepal

By Caroline Emlyn Jones | Fundraiser

Our work for street-connected children in Pokhara continues and, without your generous funding, this would not be possible. Many boys' lives are transformed from staying at the shelter, even for a short time.

At just 11 years old, Bijay's life was filled with hardship and uncertainty. After his mother had died and his father had disappeared, he found himself surviving on the streets of Pokhara. To satisfy his hunger, he resorted to begging, scrap recycling, and even petty crime. Trapped in a cycle of pain and desperation, Bijay became involved with a street gang and turned to sniffing glue as a means of escape.

Bijay was identified by one of our project outreach workers, who persuaded him to move into our temporary rehabilitation centre. Here, Bijay gained some stability and began attending school. With the care and guidance provided by the centre, Bijay showed significant improvement in his behaviour and outlook on life.

However, being surrounded by other children who had families to return to on weekends and holidays took an emotional toll on him. Bijay felt a profound sense of loneliness and began to struggle once again. Understanding his emotional needs, our team made relentless efforts to locate Bijay’s family.

After extensive efforts, Bijay’s uncle, aunt, and cousins were found. They agreed to become his legal guardians, offering him a safe and loving home.

Bijay now lives with his relatives and attends school regularly. Our staff continue to visit him, check up on his welfare and school attendance, and provide support to ensure his continued well-being.

Bijay’s story is just one example of the many lives transformed by the Street Shelter. Your generous funding is crucial in making these interventions possible. Each contribution helps us provide more children like Bijay with the opportunity to escape the streets and build a better future.

Please help us to help more children like Bijay. Your support makes all the difference.

With best wishes
