Aweil East continues to receive large numbers of Sudanese refugees who fled conflict with nothing but the clothes they were wearing. Many are sleeping under trees or makeshift shelters made from grass and old clothes. Children are exposed to cold nights, mosquito bites, and hunger conditions that increase the risk of malaria, respiratory infections, and trauma. Women and girls face added vulnerability as they lack privacy and safety. Humanitarian assistance remains extremely limited,
The project will provide life-saving NFIs to 500 Sudanese refugee households, ensuring each family receives a complete kit containing: Blankets for warmth and protection at night Tarpaulins (Taplins) to construct temporary shelters Utensils for cooking and safe food preparation Mosquito nets for malaria prevention, especially for children and pregnant women This support will improve living conditions by giving families safe shelter, and protection from harsh weather.
Providing NFIs will help displaced families rebuild with dignity. With basic shelter and household items, Sudanese refugees can stabilize, protect their health, and begin restoring livelihoods. Women and girls gain safety and privacy, while families shielded from illness save on medical costs and focus on income generating activities. The support reduces negative coping mechanisms and helps households move from extreme vulnerability to stability and hope.
