On March 2, 2015, the Newberg City Council approved the lease contract with the Newberg Animal Shelter Friends (NASF) to operate the animal shelter. We've been maintaining the shelter and its operations for the past few months and now that the contract is approved, we can move forward with our operations planning.
Our first order of business, is to hire a shelter manager to manage the daily work load. With this position filled, we hope to have longer open hours, especially on the weekend. Twelve volunteers have been operating the shelter, as well as, caring for their own families, animals and jobs. It's been a fun and rewarding few months. The volunteers will continue to care for the animals and work with the shelter manager to grow the business to provide more services to the community and allow the shelter to become self sustaining.
There's much work to be accomplished over the next few months. The shelter and NASF websites (including the FaceBook sites) have been merged to: www.newberganimals.com. We are very pleased with the feedback we've received.
We appreciate your continued support and please check our website for events and announcements.
We are very excited to be involved with the Newberg Animal Shelter and that it will continue to provide services to the community. Over the past few months, it's been obvious there's a need for animal services within Yamhill County. We have adopted dogs and cats as far away as Alaska, Seattle and throughout the Portland Metro Area.
Thank you for your past generosity.
