We hope you are having a great summer!
It's been a warm summer in the shelter without air conditioning and ventilation, but we've had plenty of fans going.
As stated in our last report, as of July 1st, the City of Newberg has eliminate the Animal Control Program from the city budget. This has been a hard reality to face for the City and for NASF. The Animal Control officer has been the director and mentor for the shelter volunteers. To continue utilizing the new building and provide animal services, volunteers will continue to operate the shelter. Thankfully, the Animal Control Officer is volunteering and guiding us through the transition to become a fully functional ALL volunteer operated animal shelter.
This past month, NASF and the City of Newberg have been working on the lease contract. We need to lease the City Shelter in order to 'operate' the shelter without City involvement. This is a big undertaking. We are training new volunteers and creating the ground work to be ready for the signing and completion of the contract. Until the contract is signed, the volunteers are working together to continue with personal surrenders, holding strays and doing adoptions. It's important to continue to care for the animals while undergoing this operational transition.
Please refer to the shelter website for the latest news, operational hours and adoptable pets from the Newberg Animal Shelter.
Please continue to support the shelter during this transition period. The services provided by the shelter is important to the City of Newberg, Dundee and by the County. It is our goal to insure many of these services are still available and still provide care of our local animals.
Thank You!
