Duran is a city of the province of Guayas, Ecuador. Its poopulation by sex is 116,401 men and 119,368 women. 49% of the cases presented in Duran Police are domestic abuse against women. We are working on the issue of prevention against domestic abuse with 400 girls from 14 to 18 years old, empowering them in the exercise of their physical, psychological and sexual integrity rights.
Each year more than 14,851 women and girls are trying to find help and report domestic violence at the police of Duran. As a result of living in a domestic violence atmosphere and have lack of information, young girls are taking decisions to leave their homes and school early. Unconsciously they are repeating same patterns of behavior from their parents and people with whom they live. This project will affect more than 30,312 users who sought help in the Community Police Units of Duran.
We believe that the prevention should also integrate the male therefore we established a group of professionals that will in charge of the integral PREVENTION PROGRAM, which is going to have a duration of 1 calendar year and are covering different areas such as: prevention, empowerment, psychology, occupational, spiritual help, entrepreneurship. Providing these keys to adolescents, they will be able to live a healthier and more enhanced life.
Giving this support to 400 adolescents with the prevention program, they are being empowered to make wise changes and decisions not just in themselves, but in their families and community. The program is working to have in a short term a protection network for other women and girls in the area which we are working with.
