Dear friends, donors, and interested people,
In the farming community of 6000 people which this project focuses on, access to city hospitals is out of reach for the vast majority of people so the only medical lifeline is our small clinic with one doctor. Recently we received the tragic news that the solar panels used to power the local healthcare clinic had been stolen. This was devastating for local efforts to imporove community wide health and meant that the doctors surgery was unable to continue running given that there was no electricity to run things like fridges to keep medicines cool and preserved, or lights to ensure treatment can continue all day long.
Whilst this news is terrible to hear, all we can do now is focus on the future and how to rebuild. Therefore our new focus with this project is to fund replacement solar panels in order to get the doctor's surgery back up and running. This is an urgent matter so donations are needed more than ever to guarantee the health of the local community by preventing disease outbreaks with vaccinations, and treating conditions with the right equipment.
Another solar project we have on the horizon is installing a solar powered perennial bore hole to a farm in Zimbabwe in order to provide water security. We also install small $44 dollar solar panels to farms, 3 of these can generate enough electricity to power the equipment for one farm, and be shared with neighbours at times of surplus.
