Over half a million Zambian children are unable to access conventional education. Schools of Good Hope project works with 8 of Zambia's poorest communities, who have set up their own makeshift schools and enables them to provide the good standard of education they desire for their children. By training the untrained volunteer teachers and providing essential resources we will ensure that Zambia's poorest children don't have the poorest education!
In Zambia over half a million children don't have places in government schools, either because there are no spaces, they live too far away, or because they can't afford the fees. Communities respond by setting up their own makeshift community schools, but these lack the most basic resources and the teachers often have no training. Consequently the poorest children end up getting the poorest education.
Our project aims to improve the quality of education in eight community schools in Zambia's poorest regions. We will provide basic teacher training to the untrained volunteer teachers and vital educational resources. Through an innovative UK-Zambian schools linking programme we aim to give the poorest and most disadvantaged children an education that is comparable to that recieved by their government- educated peers.
Our project will enable over 1000 of Zambia's poorest and most disadvantaged children to gain a quality education and new hope for the future! We believe that education is a vital lifeline out of poverty for these children and their families. 69 volunteer teachers will improve their skills and receive training they might never otherwise have had access to. We intend that our community schools will become happy, innovative and sustainable places that the community can be proud of!
