This semester has been wrapped up after lots of hard work that paid off! Our relationship with Himalayan Health Care continues develop and we are building a tighter community with CU Boulder.
We are actively futhering our public health awareness. We hosted a public event where grad student Galen gave a talk about the post-earthquake effects on Nepal. He himself worked in Nepal before and after the earthquake, and it was incredible to see his view. We also hosted a benefit dinner with keynote speaker Dr. Cain who shared her perspective on cross-cultural communication and development. In addition, seven of our staff members attended Summit, a national Globemed conference which takes place in Chicago. Here, our members attended several panels and talks that helped broaden our understanding of partnership with Himilayan Health Care and the importance of the public health world. We believe that public health awareness is really important; if you don't understand the problem, how can you help it?
We also have very exciting news: the GROW trip is happening! Last year we were unable to send students to Nepal due to the earthquake. This year, we are sending two of our hard working staff members to work with our partner organization, Himilayan Health Care in Nepal, hands on. They will be there for approximately three months, and will work to ensure the money raised is being used the most effectively and is actually benefitting the people living there. Similar to last semester, we are continuing to fundraise money to sponsor the building of a school in the Dhading District in Nepal. We are very excited to see everything come together!
This summer, we will continue planning our major events such as the Colorado Health Conference and next year’s benefit dinner. We also have a new hard-working team for this year that we can’t wait to see what all we can accomplish this year.
