The imeadiate earthquake crises is over and our mission to feed the earthquake victims has been successfully completed but there is a lot more work to be done. Relief agencies continue with on-going projects as they work hard to repair damage, provide comfort and support for earthquake victims. A great big thank you to all of you for playing an important part in providing food and water for Nepalese left without food and shelter.
Sanj Shrestha, the representative for Sargamatha Coffee Coalition is a very dear friend and colleague that has worked with CMAF on humanitarian projects for several years. When villages near his coffee farm were devastated by the earthquake, Sanj and his friends delivered needed goods and helped to rebuild homes and schools. That was the beginning which led to increased involvement and dedication to rebuilding of schools, and assisting in development projects to improve living standards for villagers. With the help of CMAF, grant funds from Global Giving are allowing Sanj to provide clean water, solar light fixtures, and refill eroded earth from six schools in Naya Gaon, Kavrepalanchowk District.
Because of a new crisis that has emerged it may take a little longer for aid relief workers to complete projects. India has imposed an unofficial blockade searching every single truck making its way to Nepal. The border crossings are the lifeblood of the landlocked country, and Nepal depends on India for all of its petroleum products. Whether you're going to buy medicine, or an iron roof sheet to repair your house or rice to feed a family, all commodities are very scarce. Nepal is in a most tragic situation with many hungry depressed people living from day to day.
As I'm writing this report news of a a 5.0 eartquake in Nepal was reported. I will listen for more details but I am happy to know that here was very little damage has been reported.
Please continue your prayers as we endeavor to relieve the suffering of the Nepalese people.
