The 26 August 2026 flash flood on Nepal's Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers destroyed homes and water systems. Bagmati Welfare Society Nepal, a women- and youth-led organization permitted by the District Administration Office, Nuwakot, has handed over 22 water tanks (57,200 liters) and nine submersible pumps at holding centers and is laying pipelines to restore water schemes. Your support brings safe water, hygiene kits and water containers to displaced families in Nuwakot.
On 26 August 2026, a lake dammed by an ice-rock collapse burst and sent a flash flood down the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers through Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading. Nepal's disaster authority records 1,451 dead and 5,745 missing. The flood damaged 98 water intakes, 203 reservoir tanks and 443.9 km of pipeline. In Nuwakot, displaced families in rented rooms lack safe water, soap and menstrual hygiene materials, raising the risk of disease, while women and girls spend hours fetching water.
Bagmati Welfare Society Nepal (BWSN) has worked in Nuwakot since the day after the flood, handing over 22 water tanks (57,200 liters), nine pumps and hygiene and dignity kits. At the request of Bidur Municipality and the district WASH cluster, we will lay 700 m of pipeline at Lahare Gaun, Bidur-7 (about 2,000 households), restore the Kolputar and Keureni water schemes, give hygiene kits and water containers to displaced families, and run hygiene sessions.
Restored water schemes will give thousands of Nuwakot families safe water close to home for years. Each scheme will be handed over with an operation and maintenance plan and a trained user committee. BWSN has done this before: in Haripur, Sarlahi, a municipal board we helped set up now runs three schemes serving 1,113 households. Families will face less waterborne disease, and women and girls will spend less time carrying water and more on work, study and rest.
