Needs Map Container Living Spaces

The massive destruction caused by the Kahramanmaras Earthquake is estimated to take approximately 5 years to rebuild the region. However, nearly two years after the disaster, thousands of people are still unable to meet one of their most basic rights:  access to adequate shelter. 

Since the very first day of the earthquake, Needs Map has been working to identify the needs of affected communities on-site and provide rapid and appropriate support through resource mobilization activities. To address one of the greatest needs in the earthquake-affected regions, Needs Map has built and undertaken the management of a living space in Hatay, which includes container homes, a community center, and a psychosocial support center. 

In line with sustainable development goals, what sets this project apart from ordinary container settlements is its adoption of science-based, nature-friendly, and dignified design principles. This space not only meets individuals' housing needs but also offers inclusive communal living areas that support physical, mental, social,l and emotional well-being. This area, which includes child-friendly playgrounds, sports facilities, and a Community Center where cultural, artistic, and educational activities can be carried out, aims to facilitate the return of local people to their daily lives.

As Needs Map, we aimed to take a concrete step to help the local community get back on its feet by implementing this project.
