In response to the earthquake in Turkey on February 6, 2023, Needs Map established "Container Cities / Co-Living Spaces" in Hatay and Kahramanmaras to support the shelter need which is crucial one. Currently, an inclusive and supportive environment is provided for approx. 300 households. In the Community Center located in these areas, psychosocial and physical well-being is enhanced through various activities. By promoting community cohesion, it aims to improve resilience.
In this disaster, 50,000 people lost their lives, more than 313,000 buildings were destroyed, and 3.3 million people were left homeless.One of the biggest needs that emerged after this disaster was the need for shelter. Due to the collapse and damage of buildings, millions of people had to live in extremely challenging conditions in chaotic living spaces for weeks. As a result of this disaster, people had to leave not only their homes but also their routines and life habits behind.
Established to solve the sheltering problem, Living Space aims to create an inclusive living space. The area, which has a neighborhood-like layout, makes it a priority for the people living here to live in the best conditions. Community Centers established in these areas host various activities and projects to support people's psycho-social and physical well-being and provide a space for education.
Needs Map aims to improve the quality of life of the households in the region, prioritize the well-being of the people staying in this area so that they feel safer and more supported in their daily lives, and contribute to the development of a sense of community and belonging. Activities and projects organized in Community Centers contribute to people's psychosocial well-being, help them cope with emotional and psychological difficulties, and encourage skill development.
