How can we say thank you enough? Without your support, this small subsistence farming community west of Songea, Tanzania would not have a Montessori school in their near future. Your gifts have made a positive difference in not only the children’s lives, but also the community’s. You’re having a BIG impact.
This rural community has recruited a local young woman to become their pre-school teacher. She has embarked on a two year teacher training course in Mtwara, at the Montessori Training Centre in Mwanza. She is learning not only Montessori Methodology and Philosophy, she is making her own Montessori materials. Some of these materials have already been delivered to Ndirima-Litembo where another teacher is helping to set up the school and classroom.
While the school is not yet ready to open, the garden is flourishing. This is very important because the food grown in this garden will help to feed not only the classroom children, but should there be extra, the families of those children. The children will learn about growing food, nutrition, cooking, and taking care of themselves and others through helping in the garden.
Father Hugo has been shepherding this project since he brought a playground to this community. He visited Mtwara on the Tanzanian coast where he saw the children attending the Montessori School of Mwanza. Those children were so different from the children in the local villages he knew. The students at Montessori School of Mwanza were energetic, engaged, enthusiastic, and excited to be attending school. He wanted this for the children in the villages he serves.
He knew that the families in Ndirima-Litembo needed a preschool or nursery school. Their parents needed to work their land, but of course, could not leave the youngest at home alone. Working within the community, Fr. Hugo has encouraged and lead villagers as they designed and built their preschool classroom, found a home for their pre-school teacher, and recruited a local woman to attend the Montessori Training Centre in Mwanza, in Mtwara, Tanzania. This has been a community-wide effort.
Yes, we still need additional donations to reach our $7,000 goal. Please make a gift and also tell others about this need. Together we can reach our goal and truly support this small school in a rural village in western Tanzania.
We are very grateful to all those who financially support this effort and we humbly thank you.
